The report found that the world is not doing enough to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which hit a new high of 55.3 gigatonnes of CO2 equivalent in 2018. 26 September 2019 30th anniversary of children's rights convention 2019 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the General Assembly’s adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) , which has become the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history and has helped transform children’s lives around the world. 24 September 2019 “Breathe with me” exhibit at UN and Central Park “Breathe with Me", a public art action for the world , conceived and executed by Jeppe Hein with ART 2030, invites people to paint their individual breath onto large canvases in the shape of vertical blue lines, one for every exhale, raising awareness that the air we breathe is part of our connected world and climate. 23 September 2019 One week: 5 summits, 17 Goals The outcomes of five high-level events taking place at UN Headquarters in New York this week: the Climate Action Summit (23 September); the High-level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage (23 September); the SDG Summit (24-25 September); the High-level Dialogue on Financing for Development (26 September); and the 8 September 2019 Celebrate literacy and multilingualism! About the Yearbook ^ The Yearbook of the United Nations —published by the Department of Global Communications—stands as the authoritative reference work on the activities and concerns of the Organization. Based on official UN documents, the Yearbook provides comprehensive coverage of political and security matters, human rights issues, economic and social questions, legal issues, and institutional, administrative and budgetary matters. The 2014 Yearbook The sixty-eighth volume of the Yearbook of the United Nations presents the work of the United Nations in dealing with recurring conflicts with severe humanitarian consequences in the Middle East, including in the Syrian Arab Republic, where more than 12 million people were in need of basic food, clothing and shelter. The volume also highlights the Organization’s rapid response to an escalatory global health emergency—the Ebola virus disease outbreak across West Africa. It documents the Organization’s coordination of policy discussions to finalize a global sustainable development agenda, with the security of future generations as the core concern; and its efforts to rebuild societies emerging from conflict while keeping the fragile peace in other places. The Yearbook cover The Yearbook of the United Nations has served as the Organization’s flagship reference work since 1947, and looking back at the illustrated Yearbook covers provides a unique perspective on more than 60 years of developments in visual design. These covers have regularly reflected the culture of their time, while alluding to the wealth of information on UN activities and concerns contained within each volume. The earliest Yearbook covers were fairly conservative, often depicting little more than the United Nations logo and the title of the book....
